The Vampire Gene Series started life in September 2008 when Killing Kiss was first published by The House of Murky Depths and was rapidly followed by Futile Flame in July 2009. At that time I thought the series would be a trilogy, but soon learnt that characters weren't happy to end it there. By the time I wrote book 3, Demon Dance, I knew the story was really only just beginning for my immortals.
I see the first three books as a trilogy even now, and so book 4, Hateful Heart is very much a standalone novel, even though chronologically it continues on from where the story ended in Demon Dance.
The Vampire Gene is a very unique series because it does not always conform to the rules of gothic horror. It is primarily literary fiction that has strong fantasy and horror content but is also deliberately fast paced and action based. In short it's deliberately an exciting read. It is also very definitely adult fiction.
